The Greatest 1915 Old-Fashioned Anywhere

1915 old fashioned

Hello Cocktail Clan.  Today we are going to discuss an old-fashioned at the Whiskey Licker Up bar in Las Vegas.  This old-fashioned is named the 1915 old Fashioned.  They take 1910 Old Forester Bourbon, and 1920 Old Forester Bourbon mix it up and come up with 1915.  I am not positive that is how it works but it is great marketing for the bar and can charge a bit more.

Per the menu the bar takes the Following:

  • Bourbon
  • Simple Syru
  • Aromatic Bitters
  • Orange Bitters
  • Peychaud’s Bitters
  • Velvet Falernum
  • Muddled Brandied Cherries and Oranges

They macerate this for five hours.  They then strain and pour into oak barrels and age for a minimum of five weeks.

When you order this cocktail at the bar, they take a large sphere of ice and pour your cocktail right out of the barrel.  They then add a cherry for garnish.  This was served in a glass on this occasion but if you are going to walk around, they serve them in plastic with their logo on it.

The extra storage in the barrel comes through a bit but, I really didn’t taste that much extra oak.  To me the flavor that comes through is the multiple different bitters used.  Thought the Peychaud’s added a nice spice to the old-fashioned on top of the orange.  The bourbon flavor was more on the 1920 side than the 1910 side.  If you like one or the other of the Old Forester, you will like this old fashioned.  You may not like the price, but it was worth the try.

Believe this is an interesting take on an old-fashioned just not sure taking two bourbons you should call it the middle of the two.  One of my favorite bourbons is the Old Forester 1920 so that added to why I wanted to try this old-fashioned.
