Hello Cocktail Clan. Let’s talk about the top 4 must have cocktail list. It is the internet, and everyone has a top something or another list. So here are the top 4 cocktails for the cocktail clan. This is my list, if you don’t approve it, leave me your list so we can chat about mine being correct.
The list of cocktails:
- Whiskey Sour
- Wisconsin Old-Fashioned (Homer Selection)
- Jalapeno Margarita
- Bourbon Mule
These 4 are from various spirits and can be enjoyed anytime of the year and most are very easy to make. This makes them a great list to impress your friends and enjoy the cocktails.
Whiskey Sour
This cocktail is simple and easy to make. This cocktail calls for three essential ingredients: Bourbon, Sour Mix, and Egg Whites. You can use whatever sour mix you like. (Squirt, Premix Sour, or Home-Made) Recipe for my home-made sour mix is below.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Bourbon
- Sour Mix
- Egg White from one small egg
- Luxardo cherry for garnish

Directions:
- Take your Boston Shaker and fill it with ice. Add your Bourbon, Sour Mix, and Egg Whites to the tin. Here is where I differ then most people. Using egg whites, they say you should dry shake first and then add your ice. I have never done that, and I think the cocktail comes out perfect with a nice flush head of foam on your cocktail.
- Now shake for 15 seconds to ensure the cocktail is chilled and combined.
- Take an old-fashioned glass / rocks glass and fill it with ice.
- Strain the Whiskey Sour over the fresh ice in the glass
- Garnish with a Luxardo Cherry
This is a refreshing drink with a bit of pucker punch from the sour mix. I use a good 100-proof bourbon for this drink, but you can use any whiskey that you enjoy.
Wisconsin Old Fashioned
This Old-Fashioned is not what you normally think of an old-fashioned. This is a twist for Wisconsin, and you will not find this style of old-fashioned outside of Wisconsin. However, when in Wisconsin and at a supper club you will only want them to be made this way.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Brandy
- Luxardo Cherry and Juice
- Orange Slice
- Sugar Cube (Simple Syrup works)
- Angostura Bitters
- Mix (7up, Squirt, Soda, or Press)
- Ice
Directions:
- Take an empty Old-Fashioned glass
- Add the Luxardo Cherry, and half a bar spoon of Juice
- Add the Orange Slice
- Add the Sugar Cube
- Add 4 dashes of the Angostura Bitters
- Add a Splash of your mix.
- Muddle everything to get a slurry of flavors
- Add your Brandy
- Add Ice
- Top with the rest of your mix
- Garnish with more Cherries
Key is this cocktail made in the glass and not in another mixing glass or anything. The orange slice skin also gives more flavor to the cocktail. Ensure this is the way the bartenders in Wisconsin make this cocktail, especially at a supper club. If they don’t that supper club will get deducted points, and I probably won’t be back. Give it a try and hope you enjoy
Jalapeno Margarita
This cocktail is a great way to enjoy a Margarita with a little kick. This cocktail does take a bit of preparation as you will need to infuse a Tequilla with jalapeno. After that this is a traditional margarita recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Jalapeno Tequila
- 1 oz Orange Liqueur
- .75 oz Fresh Lime Juice (1 small Lime)
- .25 oz Simple Syrup
- Lime Wedge and more Jalapeno for Garnish

Directions:
- Add ice to a Boston shaker
- Add the tequila to the shaker
- Add the Lime juice
- Add the simple syrup
- If you want more kick throw a couple of slices of Jalapeno in
- Shake it for 20 – 30 seconds to get everything combines and nicely chilled
- Grab a Rocks glass fill it with Ice
- Strain the cocktail into the rocks glass
- Garnish with a Lime wedge and Jalapeno
Jalapeno Tequila Recipe:
- 375 ml of Tequila
- 3 Jalapeno Cut into Slices
In an airtight container add your 3 jalapenos to the tequila. You can use the bottle of Tequila or any other glass air-tight container. Let the mixture sit in a cool dark place and shake daily for one week. You now have Tequila infused with Jalapeno.
Kentucky Mule
This cocktail is a take on the Moscow Mule. I really enjoy this cocktail as it is simply made in the glass with no preparation needed. This cocktail is nice and refreshing for those hot summer days or when you just want a cocktail watching a game.

Ingredients:
- 2 oz Bourbon (100 Proof is best)
- .5 oz Lime Juice (Fresh Squeezed always best but…)
- Top with Ginger Beer
Directions:
- Grab a copper mug. (not necessary but way cooler looking)
- Fille it with Ice
- Add your bourbon
- Add lime juice
- Top off with Ginger Beer
- Give it a stir
- Garnish with a lime Wedge
Simple easy cocktail that is so refreshing and easy to make. This is the way to have a mule if your are a bourbon lover.
